This course offers an overview of British literature from the Anglo-Saxon age to 1798. The chapters will follow the period division of BAN1311 British history. While literary periods do not always coincide with political landmarks, and trends in literature often overlap, it is still important to see how historical epochs relate to cultural achievements.
The tasks in this course are going to be entirely practical. The lecture materials will serve as a background to textual analysis.
